# Load Balancers

Every region gets a Load Balancer when its first App deploys, and all your
Apps in that region share it. Many clouds give each App its own load
balancer, billed separately; one shared Load Balancer per region is simpler
and costs less. It owns the region's DNS name, certificates, and generated
URLs, and routes public traffic to your Apps. By default it is
**Integrated**: routing runs on your App Capacity and is included.

Choose **Dedicated** instances when routing should not share a Server with
your Apps, or when you want routing to stay independent of App Server
replacement. Open **Apps → Load Balancers**, pick the region, and choose an
outcome:

| Outcome | What you get | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Integrated | Routing on App Capacity | Included |
| Dedicated | One instance on its own Server, replaced automatically if lost | Regional instance rate |
| Highly available | Two instances behind DNS, one can serve while the other is replaced | Twice the regional instance rate |

Dedicated instances retire on their own when no App in the region is public
and return on the next deploy, so an idle region costs nothing.

A Dedicated instance costs $30 in Hetzner EU, $35 on DigitalOcean, $40 in Singapore,
or $50 in Hetzner US per 30 days on Blossom Cloud, with its Server included.
With Blossom BYOC (bring your own cloud), an instance costs $5 per 30 days,
plus your provider's Server bill. Instances count toward the Location's
[capacity ceiling](/docs/capacity/). Billing starts when
an instance is ready and stops when it retires. Changing the outcome back to
Integrated retires the instances and moves routing back onto App Capacity.

## Static IP

Most Apps do not need one: the generated URL and your custom domains follow
the instance through DNS. Add a Static IP when a partner allowlists your
addresses or a DNS record must point at an address that never changes. The
option belongs to the Dedicated and Highly available outcomes, since an
address needs an instance to hold it; Integrated routing has none. Each
Dedicated instance then owns one IPv4 and one IPv6 address that stay with the
Load Balancer through replacement, through idle retirement, and through a
return to Integrated, so an allowlisted address never changes on you. On
Blossom Cloud a Static IPv4/IPv6 pair costs $6 per 30 days per instance,
charged while the addresses exist; on your own cloud the provider bills it.
Turning the option off releases the addresses.

load_balancer.yml:

```yaml
load_balancer:
  preset: dedicated
  static_ip: true
```

    blossom load_balancer:list
    blossom load_balancer:update --id load_balancer-100 --data load_balancer.yml
